Medicine counterfeiting

Post Date:

The World Health Organization (WHO) asserts that criminal networks involved in the counterfeiting of medications are increasing in recent years.

"According to an estimate published in the United States by the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest, this year the sales of counterfeit drugs could reach 75 billion US dollars, representing a 90% increase over five years." - WHO, 2010.

This issue can have extremely negative effects on health. A counterfeit medication is one that fraudulently attributes a function or origin. There can be different types of counterfeit drugs: those without active ingredients or with incorrect dosages, those with incorrect ingredients that can be harmful, those with counterfeit or reused packaging, or a combination of these.

The consequences of this can put people's lives and health at risk. Although this problem tends to be more prevalent in developing countries, common cases of counterfeiting include fake medications in counterfeit packaging.

But how can we identify and avoid them? Make sure they come from a reliable pharmacy, verify that the packaging is original and shows no signs of tampering.

At Proenfar, we work to provide solutions focused on innovation and technology, generating safe and reliable products to support the pharmaceutical industry.
